Well, as many of you may already know, voting was so intense that you all overloaded our server! But, after a short downtime – we managed to get back up and running and voting went NUTS in the final hours. So, we tallied a whopping total of 836 votes! HOLY WOW! Not only was the voting intense, but it was CLOSE! And, yes, I’m teasing you since winners will not be announced until our Open House on —– THE DATE HAS CHANGED —— March 17th.
So, mark your calendars for the big reveal!!!!
So as you all know, we brought a bunch of cute kiddos into the studio over the past month for Casting Calls. We need new artwork for our walls and thought that this would be the perfect way to get some new images. So….who do you think should hang on the studio walls?
So (see now I’m going to do it on purpose) I was sitting here in the Loft at the end of last year staring at my sad, naked walls trying to decide when I would have the time and energy to go through sessions to choose photos to decorate said sad walls. Then, inspiration smacked me upside the head (or was that Katie trying to get my attention)…why not shoot NEW sessions! And that’s what I’m doing. I’ve decided to shoot all new mini sessions for the sole purposes of having a CONTEST to create art for the walls.
Here’s the skinny:
I will be shooting Casting Call mini sessions through February 15th for kiddos ages 4 mos to 14. Each session will be 15 minutes (approximately) – the sole purpose of which is to get ONE image that I truly LOVE. I will post all of my favorites to the blog in late February and will open it up to the public to vote on which images everyone thinks should grace my walls. In addition, I will print my favorite image as an 8×10 gift for each participant.
Winners of the online voting will be revealed at our March 10th Open House! Not only that – every winner will receive a coupon for a complimentary full session!

Don’t Panic!! This post title does NOT mean that I won’t be taking nekkid baby photos anymore. Honestly, you know me better than that. What it DOES mean is that I won’t be letting “naked” wall portraits leave the studio anymore!
How many times have I heard from clients (you know who you are, don’t be ducking behind your chair) “Oh, I still need to get the photos from the last session framed” OR “yeah, those are still in the box”. Isn’t the whole point of having photos created to SHOW THEM OFF. So, there you have it…no more excuses, no more naked portraits. Every wall portrait that leaves the studio from now on will be finished – framed, mounted, metal, acrylic – whatever finish you choose, but ready to hang as soon as you get home! Also, I just really want to save you the hassle of making an additional trip or appointment to have your portraits framed. It’s that “one stop shop” idea – I want to be that for you! I’ve brought in an entire line of basic frames that are GORGEOUS – and, of course, we have our full line of custom and whimsical frames available as well. I’m really excited about this change and can’t wait to decorate your walls this year!!
So, as most of you know by now (given my FB blasts – LOL) Santa was at the studio this past weekend. WHAT a fun time. It was so great to have such a “laid-back” atmosphere for Santa visits. No lines. No stress. No pressure. When the kidlettes were a little timid, Santa had no problems getting down on the floor with them (sometimes a bit stealth-like), playing with toys, waiting it out. Mrs. Clause was on hand for story time and handing out gifts and dispensing cheer (and providing that “grandmotherly touch” that we needed at times). And CORRIE – again – saved the day with her amazing organizational skills, steadfast support, and overall friendship!!! While this was our first year of santa at the studio, it definitely will NOT be our last. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!!
…over 2,000 square feet of news. Yep, you read that right – we are MOVING. Probably the easiest move I’ll ever make – about 200 feet down the hall!
Now, I’m not generally one to “covet” – I’m a pretty content, go with the flow kinda gal…but I have been COVETING this space for three years. I admit, there may have even been a bit of drool involved every time I stepped through that door. The 15 foot ceilings and north facing windows sang to me – OK, maybe yelled at me a bit — in my head it sounded a bit like this, “Tanja, THIS is your dream studio —- find a way to make it happen”. Well, barring physically removing the existing tenants from the space and changing the locks (and I really loved them so that wouldn’t have worked), it just wasn’t in the cards – until NOW. I signed the lease today and we move in in ONE MONTH – October 1.
There is definitely some work to be done – walls to be erected – a dressing room to completely build out – lots of paint … but we are so excited!! Cannot wait to shoot Holiday Photos in our new home. OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH – you want to see photos?????? Well, far be it from me to keep you waiting:
OH……..and pizza and beer to anyone who comes by on October 1st to help!!!
So, as Katie and I were sitting here craving chocolate and pondering the meaning of life we realized…..HOLY COW…..tomorrow is JULY! Yes, it sounded a bit like a gasp followed by a few profanity-ish mumblings…Thank goodness we had already brainstormed our X-mas in July promotions (and finished that brainstorming over an ice-tea and hot dogs at Billy’s). So….here they are. Like last year, we will have a different promotion every week – but you MUST call the week of the promotion to take advantage. In addition to the promotions listed, we will be having any day, any time Express Sessions all month long (minus the week that I will be visiting Mickey and Friends in Cali). So mark those calendars and give us a call (many times if you’d like – LOL). AND……Happy July!
When Alli told me she was pregnant with a little girl, I was ecstatic. Having photographed her little man since he was a newbie, I couldn’t wait to get my arms around a tiny girl from one of my favorite families. I’ve said it before, and I’m sure to say it many many MANY more times – newborn photography is my FAVORITE. The way they curl, the way they coo, the way they SMELL – yes, that newborn smell —- heavenly (well, when they have clean diapers of course). Mackenzie made my heart happy – she was an absolute angel – sleepy, curly, moldable! AND, I got to try out my new rummage sale find – the pink trunk. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect photo for the inaugural use.

Tadhg (pronounched tie-g) was a little unsure about the cake. Very proper, very concerned, and even very leery of the first bite. Even after that first taste, he didn’t dive right in, but rather took his time, tested the waters, made sure all was OK! Maybe one of the cleanest birthday cake sessions I’ve ever photographed, but no less entertaining. Happy Birthday, big guy!
Yep – she’s drop-dead gorgeous…but, she’s also one of the most down-to-earth, laid back people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I was simply thrilled when J asked me to do a shoot for her, to update her “more than a few” years old portfolio. We had so much fun! From catalog look to high fashion, J pulled it all off with grace and style. We all wish her the best of luck!! A huge shout out is also in order for Tiffany McCray with Blush Artistry and Co. for the incredible makeup! Three different looks in two hours! Simply flawless and absolutely stunning.
