Dog Days of Summer | Denver Pet Photographer

In: Giving Back, Pets

It was hairy….it was (at times) loud…it was HILLARIOUS….and it was a great success!  Our 1st Annual “Dog Days of Summer” shoot to raise funding for Lifeline Puppy Rescue was a BLAST!

Picture this……a warm summer Saturday, a 5 year old who had been begging quite possibly his entire life for a puppy, a Mommy and Daddy who had finally decided they were ready (or who, in truth, finally gave in), and a trip to Brighton, Co.  Lifeline Puppy Rescue was our destination — our family was about to grow by 4 (very cute) feet.  Now, I’m a sucker for animals and I would have grabbed up every puppy there if I could have, they were all so amazingly sweet, but the “deal” was that G. got to pick the puppy.  I had planned on being there for hours while he made his decision.  Surprisingly, he picked out a puppy that he wanted to meet almost immediately.  She was shy, scared, trembling in her little puppy fur- which was brindle head to toe.  While other puppies were going nuts in the “meeting pens” – bouncing around – showing off – our little girl just sat right next to my legs trembling.

Isn’t it funny how just when you think you know your kid he does something completely surprising.  I expected G. to want to play with other puppies, find one that was more “lively” and interactive.  NOPE.  His heart was already set on the little brindle girl (who, coincidentally, looked VERY MUCH like the 18 year old cat we had lost a couple months prior). Tell me this face doesn’t just melt your heart…

About that time, a volunteer came by to get us set to go through orientation.  She asked G. what he was going to name his new puppy and without hesitation, G. blurted out “FOOM” (which, coincidentally, was the name he gave to his first stuffed animal – at age 2).  He then proceeded to tell the volunteer that he, “picked her with his heart”.  Dang, I love that kid!  OH, and just in case you were wondering, it took Foom all of about 20 minutes in her new home to break out of the shell and start displaying the frolicking, barking, completely insane behavior that defines her personality to this day!  She’s nuts!  And we love her immensely!

So, that’s the backstory.  Along with falling in love with Foom, I kinda developed a little crush on Lifeline too!  They are a small, no-kill shelter working hard to do good things.  Over their 16 years in business, they have placed over 20,000 puppies with families.  They only adopt puppies on weekends, so that’s an even more monumental number when you think about it.  Lifeline is a mostly volunteer run organization and are always in need of help – it only made sense to me, when we decided to move into the “pet-ography” business, to make Lifeline our charity of choice for our Dog Days of Summer event.  If year one was any indication, this annual event will only get better and better!

Here’s a little peek at how we spent the day:

HI…..

Welcome to the “behind the lens” peek into Contemporary Expressions Photography - an upscale urban photography boutique in Downtown Denver. This is just the little corner of the internet where I’m able to share my passion with all of you, give you a peek at recent sessions, keep you updated on studio promotions and goings-on, and offer a little glimpse into my world…a world I cherish —– whether I’m looking at it through the lens or with both eyes wide open!

Kick back…take a look around…quack like a duck if it makes you smile…and remember – life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away!
