You know how people always say “OH, you don’t know what love is until you have a child”? I thought they were full of …well…let’s say “hot air” (this is a public blog after all). Eight years ago, I was beyond happy living my “kid-free” life and being madly, head-over-heels, fluttering heartbeat and butterflied belly in LOVE with my new husband. I couldn’t possibly imagine LOVING any deeper. Then HE came into my life – a 7 pound, 21 inch miracle of epic proportions…and I understood. It isn’t that I “didn’t know what love was”… but there is no other way to describe that love-at-first-sight, I’d give my life for you, unconditional, transcendent love that I felt the instant they laid G. on my chest. I get it, OK? All “you people” were right.
Being a Mom is the hardest job I’ve ever had. I feel like I fail every day – sometimes at big things, sometimes at just making a decent scrambled egg…but I also feel like I’ve succeeded beyond all my childhood dreams every day as well because I helped to bring this AMAZING person into the world. Yep. I sound a bit cocky…a little biased…but I also know I’m not alone in feeling this way…
